Before I met my hubby, I had somehow forgotten how to be a woman.
Yeah. That part is actually true. I never blossomed. I went straight from awkward teenager and straight into rigid, frumpy, and stiff. So you could say that I never learned how to be a REAL woman.
For instance, prior to meeting Hubby – I never wore miniskirts or minidresses or even dresses PERIOD. I was trying to climb the corporate ladder at work. I was so determined and focused upon my success, I decided suits were the only thing I could wear. Not only did I wear suits everyday, I hid anything feminine about myself. I even cut my hair shorter. (Not short, but much shorter than my standard!)
I even wore ugly man-like shoes. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
“I was promoted because I wore ugly man-like shoes,” said NO ONE EVER! Ah, the things I believed when I was twenty-something.
Until one day, I saw him, and I was all like. OH.MY.GOD. He is SOOOOOO nerdy, how can I get him to notice me? (I LOVE nerds!)
Enter the mini-skirt. I didn’t even OWN a miniskirt until I was in my thirties, but when I DID finally buy one, it worked like a charm. 😉 And in my 30’s, I was able to reclaim my feminine side. I learned about miniskirts, I learned how to laugh, I learned how to cry, I learned how to be soft, I learned how to be a woman. I learned how to be myself!
So, whenever we have a date night – I reach for something short. It reminds me of the first time I wanted to be a woman!
This little minidress is so cute. It’s from a local Minneapolis designer, Cynthia Rae. The dress is made from an Italian-print silk. It’s so soft and beautiful. And since the cut is loose, its comfortable!! The watercolor print is muted and GORG. It’s like a piece of art!
You can’t help but feel like a woman in a beautiful, delicate, dress like this! We laughed the night away on our double date. We got to be girls, and the boys were boys! If you’re curious how it went down, you can check out the pictures here.
The Rest Of The Deets:
A simple gold Michael Kors watch goes with just about anything. And since it doesn’t have all the fancy chronograph dials – it’s a little dressier – which is perfect for date nights! I somehow manager to sneak in my new (to me) Vintage horn bracelet with the green stone inset. It’s my new favorite accessory!
And these shoes. They came from a thrift/consignment store, called B Resale in South Minneapolis. They are so GORG. I had to hold my breath while I checked to see if they were my size. Not only were they MY size, these Saks Fifth Avenue babies were new/never worn and only $20!
What I’m Wearing:
Dress: Cynthia Rae
Shoes: Saks Fifth Avenue thrifted from B Resale
Purse: Express (old)
Accessories: Earrings – M. Bridget Designs, Gold Necklace – vintage, Watch – Michael Kors, Ring – House of Harlow, Vintage Horn & Stone bracelet, Live In Love ribbon bracelet, misc bracelets
