Once upon a time, I lived in the suburbs. I never quite did the minivan thing, but I was a TOTAL soccer mom, brownie mom, and mom-chaffuer. Now that my kids are grown, I’m a TOTAL Uptown girl and LOVING every minute of it.

I live in a great area of Minneapolis, near Uptown. I am just a few blocks from boutiques GALORE, restaurants, bars, salons – everything an Uptown girl or boy could EVER dream of. Yesterday, my bestie (Oscar) & I decided to check out a new bakery in town – Soloman’s. NO JOKE, we ate 2 apple turnovers, a spinach & cheese croissant, a chocolate croissant and a pumpkin cake roll. And then we proceeded to buy extra’s “for later.” And then afterwards we decided to do what we do best – I walked, and Oscar snapped photos for me.

Wandering around Uptown, you’ve gotta look, chic, yet be comfortable. I opted for these Zara coated jeans & a GORGEOUS Leifsdottir suede jacket in a cream/abalone color.

I LOVE the details on this suede jacket. I nearly fainted when I saw this at Nordstrom a few years ago. Not only such a BEAUTIFUL design – check out the detail on the lapel, and the slight pouf in the shoulder’sleeves, the cute little pockets are perfectly detailed/seamed, and you can’t see if in the pics very well, but the sleeves have a lace up detail that is simple GORG. And to top it off, the suede is a buttery soft suede. TDF!

As far as skinny jeans go, you can’t ask for much more than these Zara coated jeans. They fit like a GLOVE, they’re comfy, they have a little stretch, and their coated for a leather look without the heaviness of leather. These ones have lots of great details, like all the zippers! Zippers at the pockets, an extra zipper on the right, and zippers at the leg openings for a fitted look. If you’re looking for them, the website description reads “slim fit coated trousers” and they’re only featuring 1 color, but when I picked these ones up at the Austin, Texas store, they had 3 different colors. I’m kicking myself for not picking up a pair in black!

How to Get the Look:

Pair skinny jeans with a short fitted jacket – this is one of those outfits where everything should fit just right. Try to keep the color darker on the bottom and lighter on the top for contrast. To get even an even closer look, choose waxed/coated/leather jeans and a suede jacket or vice versa – mix/contrast the materials for the best interesting combinations! With this outfit, I tried to match details like the lace-up sleeves with the lace-up shoes, and kept the color pallet simple – and in the same hues.

Frightfully COLD Winters are Made For Delightfully Warm Furs

We’ve had a yo-yo-ing warm/cold/warm/cold week. On Monday, it was in the 50′s, and I was in a short sleeve shirt. Yesterday morning, I was walking my dog, and it was 19 AND there was a nippy wind. (Keep in mind water freezes at 32 degrees!) My husband reminds me – that ain’t NOTHING in Minnesota – meaning, the worst is yet to come. Having lived here for the past 20 years, I’ve learned a few things about keeping warm in the winters. This is my FAVORITE fur coat:

When I first moved to Minneapolis, I had absolutely NO clue how cold it actually got. My first few winters were horrid. It was so cold, there were many days where I would get muscle cramps in the oddest places, like my neck or my back or my pecs – from shivering so much! Then one day, my mom visited and presented me with my first fur coat – a rabbit fur coat, and I was IN LOVE. Not only was it beautiful and soft, it was the first coat that kept my sufficiently warm in the Minnesota winters!

This is a fox fur coat, by Saga Fox, which I purchased from june, my favorite resale boutique in Uptown Minneapolis. The fit is oversized, but EXACTLY the way I want it.

Everytime I wear this (fur coat & monkey hat) out, my husband says, “It’s a little much, but you are TOTALLY ADORABLE.” This was EXACTLY the look I was aiming for! On cold winter days, you’ll find me walking my dog, Jazz, around the lake in this. I get more compliments on the coat AND the hat than I get for any other outfit – especially if someone is shivering and their lips are turning blue, I’m looking REALLY good to them!

I was recently visiting Austin, Texas a few weeks ago. Most furs that I found in Austin at comparable resale shops ranged in price from $300 – $400, and none of them were near the quality or design of my fur. Since I purchased this one at june resale last year for $250, this was bar far the STEAL of the year!

Since I take Jazz on long walks (from 45 – 75 minutes per trip), I HAVE to last the brutal Minnesota winters. Here are my

8 tips on Surviving the BRUTAL Cold:

Fur coat.
Cover your ears. A WARM hat is a MUST.
Gloves – I have fancy gloves, I have beautiful gloves, and then I also keep about 20 pairs of those cheap Target one-size fits all gloves randomly EVERYWHERE.
On really cold days, I bundle up in a thick, warm wooly scarf too.
THICK socks or lef warmers, even UNDER these great Dolce Vita boots!
Knee-high boots to hide your thick socks or leg warmers!
Some days, I even wear another pair of pants (like my work-out pants or leggings or warm jambes) underneath my jeans. I usually only do that on days where it HURTS to be outside!
Lastly, layers, layers, layers! I usually layer a tank over a top, over a oversized sweatshirt.

It’s so COLD in Minneapolis some days that Jazz won’t go out without a coat either! Her coat is lined with fleece on both sides with a layer of that 3M thinsulate weatherproof lining.

Being older & wiser, I am TOTALLY prepared for the winter – BRING IT ON!

This winter in Minneapolis has been a little strange. One day it’s WAY below zero (BRRRRR – as in its so cold you hold your face hurts), and the next day, it’s in the 50′s. In Minneapolis, in DECEMBER, temperatures in the 50′s are UNHEARD of. And of course, in typical Minnesota fashion, everyone is out and about in short sleeves – me included!

I LOVE Chaser Brand T-shirts! This recent purchase from Covered in Uptown is typical Chaser rock ‘n roll – which is PERFECT for this warming weather we’re having this week! Paired them with my worn and still TOTALLY FAB Current Elliott grey leopard skinny jeans.

Although it hit 50 degrees during the day, mornings and evenings are still a little brisk. These Dolce Vita boots are a PERFECT layering piece.

And the DEETS!

These Dolce Vita Quince boots are not only a great layer for throwing over jeans, they’re comfy AND practical. You won’t hear me talking about “practical” shoes very often -this is a fashion blog after all! BUT, when you live in Minneapolis, the slip-and-fall capital of the world (due to ice!), having practical boots are a MUST. These ones have a rubber sole AND a thick chunky heel – perfect for helping to grip & walk on slippery pavement. Believe it or not, it’s hard to find boots that have a rubber sole AND a chunky heel!

There’s so much fun fall fashion out right now, and there’s no reason a girl should feel the least bit stifled!

We’ve fast become besties over long conversations about EVERYTHING, including getting each other’s opinion on our purchases. He recently asked for my opinion on 3 different watches. They were all equally beautiful in their own way, and all MUST haves. I couldn’t bring myself to pick a favorite. I was HORRIFIED. What would he think of me if I can’t give him an opinion? But, it was like choosing which kid was your favorite. This was a hard choice, and just as I was caught in the indecision of it all, he sends me this text message:

I just decided to buy all three watches.

Oh Oscar. That’s what I would have done! You TOTALLY get it!

4.) Sometimes You Just Gotta Say “WHAT THE HELL” and Just Go For It.

There’s nothing that can fix a fashion rut like something that doesn’t make ANY. PRACTICAL. SENSE, yet,

You JUST GOTTA HAVE IT.

OMG. This outfit – so many things to LOVE:

- Let’s start from the ground up. There’s these SHOES – they’re YSL, they’re VELVET and they lace up. AND they make your legs look SMOKING HOT. What more do you want from a pair of shoes?

- And speaking of SMOKING HOT, check out this SMOKING HOT, SHORT Tibi sequin miniskirt. Like REALLY short – which is PERFECT, as if it were any longer, it wouldn’t say, SMOKING HOT, right?

- And just when you think you couldn’t loose your mind any more, BAM. THIS. Armani. Blazer. SOOOO NOT practical. I mean, where do you wear a jacket with a big opening in the back? AND get this – it comes with a matching bandeau top. YEP – you were MEANT to look this SMOKING HOT. I mean, totally impractical, but, HEY. We’re talking fashion statement here. Sometimes, you just gotta make some sacrifices to make the RIGHT statement.

And you’re probably wondering – what’s with all those shoes? Is that what heaven looks like?

3.) Every Girl Needs something “proper!”

And when I say “proper,” I mean, something a little more conservative than what I typically reach for in my own closet. My style is a little rock ‘n roll, a little glam, with a pinch of wild west cowgirl, a dollop of comfy casual and a healthy dose of boho. Conservative and proper aren’t really in my wheel house, but there are occasions that call for it, and EVERY girl needs to be prepared for all occasions.

Luckily this boucle dress by Tory Burch has just the right amount of “proper,” and enough cool details to satisfy a girl like me!

Somedays, I just want to wear a blanket. Lucky for me, I actually have something that fits the bill! This Wooden Ships by Paola Buendia brand poncho/shawl is alike a big comfy blanket, except it’s got a hood and pockets!

I wore this outfit shopping on Saturday. I paired the Wooden Ships blanket/shawl/poncho with a Show Me Your Mumu top in a tie-die pattern and cute gray Hudson skinny jeans. The outfit is comfy, cute, warm, and easy to put on and take off without being too fussy!

2.) SEQUINS, because we all love shiny happy things!

OMG. I fainted and THEN had to pick myself off the floor when I saw this. SEQUINS. And if you’re going to do sequins, you may as well go ALL IN with this head-to-toe sequins jumpsuit by Free People.

(and if you’re thinking head-to-toe sequins isn’t your thing – June Boutique has a TON of other sequin-y things in store including that little red blazer in sequin – see it peeking out of the rack next to me?)

Imagine yourself at your next holiday party. You will be the star of the show. In fact, you will be hard to miss in this number. And when you’re heading out the door? The jaws will drop to the floor checking out your sexy back.

And since we’re on the topic of sexy backs – this jumpsuit has a little stretch, but it’s not so tight that it pinches your backfat and makes you look like you have backfat. If you’re like me, backfat can be an issue. I avoid tight things around my back because of backfat. However, this jumpsuit? NO BACK FAT. That’s a WIN WIN WIN in so many ways people!

And this TRUSSARDI Black Leather Branch Handle Bag – so versatile. I can imagine this dressed up or down and everywhere in between, and in basic black? You can’t go wrong.

Here is my fall fashion pick #1:

1.) Every girl needs a little fur vest!

And these cute little Joe’s Jeans in a GREAT floral print – dark enough for fall, yet bright and fun enough to transition into spring when the time comes!

And if your eye is drawn to that Louis Vuitton purse, don’t be shy. We’re ALL looking at that bag and drooling. I could just rename this blog post

“Every girl needs a cute little Louis Vuitton purse,”

but does that really need to be said? I mean, it’s simply understood, right? This one is rare – in a beautiful periwinkle/lavender color.

I’m also TOTALLY BANANAS over these Carolina Herrerra sunnies and the TKO ceramic watch – in BLACK. I’m not talking about a black band – everyone has one of those. I’m talking about a black FACE. Black watches are ALL THE RAGE this season, and they’re hard to find anywhere, as they’re usually SOLD OUT!

Fall Fashion Pick #1: Every Girl Needs a Little Fur Vest!

You know that feeling when you have a closet full of stuff and you STILL have nothing to wear? That’s how I felt, so I decided to head over to june in Uptown to get INSPIRED. There’s so much fun fall fashion out right now, and there’s no reason a girl should feel the least bit stifled!

OMG. I will meet you there – and I will bring my camera!

Oh Oscar. You understand me! You are a fashion blogger’s dream come true!

Here is my fall fashion pick #1:

1.) Every girl needs a little fur vest!

And these cute little Joe’s Jeans in a GREAT floral print – dark enough for fall, yet bright and fun enough to transition into spring when the time comes!

And if your eye is drawn to that Louis Vuitton purse, don’t be shy. We’re ALL looking at that bag and drooling. I could just rename this blog post

“Every girl needs a cute little Louis Vuitton purse,”

but does that really need to be said? I mean, it’s simply understood, right? This one is rare – in a beautiful periwinkle/lavender color.
